The Chase

"Okay, let's call this meeting to an end." Atani Amamoto called out to the audience, her voice ringing in the inderground cavern. As they were dismissed, a young teen in a black hoodie sauntered up to her.

"We need to talk." He spoke quietly, as if he were afraid of being heard.

"Speak then. You have nothing to hide." Atani replied, flipping her long black hair over her shoulder. The boy seemed taken aback, but quickly composed himself.

"I've been hearing more and more reports of monster sightings around the world recently. These aren't the normal ones either. They're the ones that caused the first Paradigm Shift."

"You aren't supposed to speak of that."

"We need to be ready. This is dangerous."

"I know. I'll message Master and see if we can get some upgraded weapons. They won't cause another uprising." Atani slung her messenger bag over her shoulder. "At least not as long as I'm alive."

"I know. Good luck." The mysterious man, Matt Smith, made a Greek Δ with his hands, a sign of safe-keeping.

"Hey Peter!" Clara Wolffe called out as she jogged up to the bus stop. "Here's your math book! Thanks for letting me borrow it!" Peter nearly slapped himself in the face. Dang, she's so obvious.

"Your welcome. That homework wasn't easy." This must have the new gadgets in it. Just don't shake it.

"There's gonna be a fire drill at 10:15 sharp. Meet in the library." She leaned in and whispered, each word barely a wisp. She finished just as the bus pulled up, opening the door to the oncoming sea.
